Sat 15 Sep 2007  Cup
HORDEN C.W. A.F.C. 1
Mark Stephenson (1)
Jarrow Roofing 1

Horden got the dream start to this tasty FA Cup 1st round qualifier with Stephenson heading home a contender for the quickest goal in the FA Cup this season. When Darren Atkinson swung in a free kick from the left, Mark Stephenson met it well and opened Hordens account on 1min 26secs. From then Horden enjoyed a gutsy performance for the first 25mins. A busy Jonathan Monaghan seeming to relish his first start this season and new signing Neil Maddison looking promising and going close on 11mins.Andrew Rafferty was called on in the 21st to punch clear from a looping shot and then on 26mins a devastating blow to Colliers saw Jamie Arthur badly injured (ruptured achilles), this seeming to unsettle and disrupt the flow in their game; Horden were very much on the back foot from then on in, resorting again to long ball football and finding it difficult to find any sort of rhythm.

After the interval, Horden seemed to have the best of the play, but despite moving the ball around found the final ball elusive and lacked any penetration in the final third. Beyond this short spell they spent the rest of the half soaking up pressure on pressure from Jarrow who grew in strength and confidence as the clock ticked slowly down. Rafferty was superb pulling off saves in the 74th, 79th, 80th, 83rd and 88th minute. His back four of Stephenson, Davies, Moan and Pearson worked hard to maintain the score line but in the 91st minute a free kick conceded on the edge of the area saw Andy Johnson steal the important equaliser for Jarrow. Horden hung on by their nails until the final whistle eventually came and now need to go to Jarrow on Tuesday night (7.30pm) and really turn todays performance around to progress any further in this competition. Lets hope they can.

Best wishes to Jamie Arthur, a speedy recovery from all at the Club.
