The best thing about the team is that they are all friends. A lot of them have played together for many years. At the age of 13 they won their League Cup and since then have always performed well in the various age groups of the Russell Foster Leagues. They are currently in the Under 21 group.
Three seasons ago they won the Under 18 League Cup in one of the most exciting games ever. They played against local rivals Seaham Red Star and although Horden scored first they went in at half time 1-4 down. The dressing Room team talk must have been something special because they eventually went on to win the Cup 5-4. The supporters and players will never forget that day I am sure. The following season they were Russell Foster U21 League Champions.
Would moving kids' football to a summer game help improve the development of young footballers?
Yes - better pitches mean a better chance to develop technique/skills
No - wouldn't make any real difference to development
Maybe - but I'd be worried about more injuries on firm pitches
